Trek to Machu Picchu - The lost city of the Incas
The place was put on Unescos World Heritage list 1983 and is a former Colombian mountain city.
The city is said to been built by the Inca Pachacuti around 1440 and peopled lived there until the Spanish conquistadors came in 1532. The Spaniards never came to Machu Picchu and it seems that they had no knowledge about it's existence.
The place Machu Picchu is built has been chosed because it's unique location and it's geological qualification.
Machu Picchu was abondon by the Incas for an unknown reason and was 'forgotten' Probably because its function was not required any longer after the Spanish explorers came. The city was rediscovered July 24 in 1911 by Yale University history professor Hiram Bingham III.
Machu Picchu is today on the new 7 wonders of the World.
